Question:

My daughter always interrupts me when I'm on the phone. Sometimes it's not a big deal, but sometimes it is difficult when it is an important call. What can I do to stop this?

Coach Lynne's answer:

It's great that your daughter wants to share and talk with you, but this can be frustrating and embarrassing when you are on an important call. Some people can have difficulty controlling their impulses and being patient. Here are a couple of ideas to tackle this problem. Discuss with her when it's appropriate and not appropriate to interrupt. You can also create and practice using a signal like a hand gesture to indicate when it's not an ok time to interrupt. And lastly, you can use praise and positive reinforcement when she waits patiently.
